Propofol from vets - urgent safety issue Some vets are now being asked for or are offering drugs to hospitals. One drug used by vets and doctors to maintain anaesthesia is Propofol. One of the veterinary products has a preservative (benzyl alcohol) in it that can be toxic if given to excess, as might happen if a patient was in an ICU and Propofol was being used in the long term. Other information During this current crisis IPEM is taking sensible steps to maintain community safety and respond to the Government’s advice, including: IPEM events and conferences between now and September have been postponed. Bookings will be automatically transferred to the new date and anyone needing a refund will get one. Speaker expenses will be reimbursed in the usual way. We will aim to let you know new dates as soon as possible but please be aware this is still an ongoing situation and therefore it may be a few weeks before we can confirm any new dates. In you have any queries about your booking please contact conferences@ipem.ac.uk
Staff and volunteers should not to travel on IPEM business, with meetings to take place by phone or video conference where possible, until further notice. Any travel booked by members for IPEM business will be reimbursed. IPEM staff at Fairmount House in York will be working remotely following the latest government advice. IPEM remains open for business and continues to support our members.
Our Communities of Interest are now open to non-members as we encourage our members and the profession to share Covid-19 best practice. If you are a member and haven't used them before you can access them here. If you are not a member contact us on office@ipem.ac.uk so we can give you access.
