Royal Academy of Engineering award Professor John Crowe, a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Nottingham, was part of the team to be awarded the Colin Campbell Mitchell Award by the Royal Academy of Engineering for developing the world’s first wireless foetal monitor.
Chief Scientific Officer Healthcare Science awards Lifetime Achievement award: Professor Mark Tooley, IPEM President. Rising Star award: Sofia Kordolaimi, a medical physicist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Excellence in Workforce Development award: Ela Bardan, Deputy Head of Clinical Engineering at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Chief Scientific Officer Healthcare Science Awards Matthew Dunn, Head of Radiology Physics at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, won a special award for Public Engagement.
Advancing Healthcare Awards Julie Kempton (nee Wooldridge), Clinical Scientist at Leicester Royal Infirmary, and colleagues for designing an Electrodiagnostic picture book for young patients. Jo Young, Cornelius Lewis, Ian Morgan and colleagues, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, for inspiring the workforce of the future.
Science Council: UK’s top 100 practising scientists Professor Andy Beavis, Consultant Medical Physicist and Head of Radiation Physics at the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. He combines a leadership and management role in service delivery at an NHS hospital with teaching a new generation of scientists. He is also an entrepreneur, who has developed virtual simulation technology to enable therapy radiographer trainees to learn and practice their skills safely. Dr Chris Gibson, Head of the National School of Healthcare Science and Professional Lead for Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. He is also the Scientific Director for NHS South of England (Central), and a Past President of IPEM. His work in the education of the next generation of healthcare scientists is helping to ensure the safe, effective and innovative treatment of patients both now and in the future. Professor Peter Wells CBE, Distinguished Research Professor, Cardiff University School of Medicine. A researcher in clinical engineering, internationally recognised for his accomplishments in medical ultrasonics. He has successfully combined a research and development career with the application of his discoveries to public and patient benefit. He is a Past President of IPEM. Dr Heather Williams, Senior Medical Physicist for the Central Manchester NHS Hospitals Trust. As well as her hospital work, she is an honorary lecturer at Manchester University and an advocate for encouraging girls and women into science careers. She is a founder and the Director of ScienceGrrl - a broad-based, grassroots organisation celebrating and supporting women in science.
