Medical Engineering and Physics (MEP)

Medical Engineering & Physics is published in association with Elsevier Science Publishing. Professor Tania Douglas was appointed Editor-in-Chief in 2020 but sadly passed away on 20 March 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer. Former Editor-in-Chief Dr Richard Black, who is now the editor of IPEM-Translation, has returned to edit MEP until a new editor is appointed. The journal serves a diverse range of disciplines involving the application of engineering and physics to medicine and biology and its content reflects advances which have an immediate application for clinicians and biomedical engineers. It also includes papers on work at the cutting edge of science which may not have been fully assessed.

MEP is available free of charge for IPEM Full Members and Fellows. To access the journal Elsevier requires members to set up a separate user account on their publishing platform ScienceDirect.  Full instructions can be found here .

Topics include:

  • Clinical engineering

  • Biomedical computing

  • Biological systems

  • Instrumentation

  • Medical image technology

  • Biomaterials

  • Biomechanics

  • Rehabilitation

The Editor of Medical Engineering & Physics invites submissions of papers to the journal in the subject areas outlined above.  This journal is published twelve times per year and features in-depth critical reviews, scientific papers and communications of work that is at earlier stages of development. Authors can submit their papers by following this link.

Enquiries from IPEM members about personal subscriptions at member rates should be made to MEP Personal Subscriptions.
